EXPERTISE SERVICE
Thanks to dozens of years of experience in buying and selling antiques and a substantial personal collection, our company is able to estimate furniture from private collections or large institutions. Determining the final objective of an expertise is the first step in this process because this is what will allow its value to be correctly defined. This service can be requested in different types of situations, including sale, insurance, or the division of property related to an estate.
When the estimation is carried out for the sale, the furniture is listed, inventoried, documented using photos and descriptions and accompanied by a price estimate. Depending on the demands and the characteristics of the sale (to whom are these objects intended, what are the deadlines to be observed for the sale, etc.), several indications are proposed to announce the value of a good: it can be ‘an in-store selling price, but also an achievement price, more suited to merchants. Thanks to a large network of brokers, antique dealers and auction houses, our company is able to advise clients on the best way to sell these objects, whether through galleries, stores or even auction halls.
The second most mentioned reason is the desire to assess furniture in order to insure it. This is because the value of objects varies over time and very often their current price turns out to be lower than when calculating the insurance premium. The owners therefore find themselves with overvalued annual premiums, which makes it necessary to redefine these contracts which no longer conform to reality.
A regular assessment is therefore recommended in order to optimize the cost of these insurances.
Finally, in the context of an inheritance, a detailed appraisal of the heritage and furniture is expected with a view to dividing the property with the heirs. At Moinat, we are aware that the sentimental value of a property can sometimes go beyond the financial aspect alone. To allow a balanced sharing, we offer different types of assessments taking into account each situation. A financial estimate is obviously possible, but also a classification by “points” which introduces a dimension of proportion between the objects to facilitate their distribution among members of the same family.
